What is the difference between an Independent Celebrant and a Registrar?
Jump to What is a celebrant? A brief explanation on the differences between, independent, humanist celebrants and registrars.
Is a Celebrant-led Ceremony legal?
No, it’s not currently legal in England and Wales, which gives you the freedom to design your ceremony your way.
UK law requires marriages, births, and deaths to be registered. To complete the legal bits, you must give notice at your local register office. Fees start from around £60.00, and you only need two witnesses. This can be a very simple arrangement. The legal formalities can be done either before or after your ceremony. You don’t need to exchange vows or rings during the legal part, allowing you to share these special moments with family and friends during your unique celebrant-led ceremony.
Is a Celebrant-led ceremony ‘real’ or important?
Yes they definitely are. Celebrant-led ceremonies are about what is important to you and promoting choices for you. Not having to be bound to the restrictions of templates and specific wording of traditional ceremonies. Making the narrative about you, written from scratch, by getting to know 'you', celebrants create your bespoke ceremony telling your true love story, hopes and dreams, in a very real way.
Can my family and friends be involved ?
Absolutely, which helps make your ceremony more personal to you. You can also include your pet, your dog could be your ring bearer! As long as the venue or wherever you have your ceremony allow pets.
Can faith, religious or cultural elements be included in the ceremony?
Yes of course. There are no restrictions to what you include in your ceremony, as long as they are true to you and your beliefs. You can include symbolic rituals too such as candles, sand blending, tree planting. You may decide not to have any symbolic or religious elements and keep your ceremony simple. The choice is yours.
Do you write our vows?
If you would like me to yes, however you can write these yourself and I can guide and support you with your vows.
